05 / Operations, not tickets

Technology that is somebody's job.

In most organisations under two hundred people, IT is somebody's third responsibility. It gets attention when it breaks. Managed IT means the maintenance that prevents breakage actually happens, and when something does go wrong there is a defined response rather than a scramble.

The problem

Reactive versus operated

The difference is what happens on an ordinary Tuesday.

Reactive

  • Problems are addressed after a user reports them
  • Updates are applied when someone remembers
  • New starters wait days for access
  • Departed staff keep access for months
  • Nobody knows how many laptops the company owns
  • Support depends on one person's availability and goodwill

Operated

  • Monitoring flags the condition before it becomes an outage
  • Patching runs on a schedule, with exceptions tracked
  • Onboarding is a documented process completed before day one
  • Offboarding revokes access the same day, verifiably
  • A current asset register with warranty and lifecycle dates
  • A named contact, an agreed response window, and cover when they are away
Services

What is covered

01

Help desk

Remote support for the daily obstacles — access, devices, applications, printing, connectivity.

02

Monitoring & alerting

Continuous checks on the conditions that precede failure: disk, backup status, service availability, certificates.

03

Patch management

Operating system and application updates applied on a schedule, with exceptions recorded rather than ignored.

04

Endpoint management

Device enrolment, configuration baselines, encryption and remote wipe for lost hardware.

05

Onboarding & offboarding

Repeatable joiner and leaver processes so access is granted correctly and revoked completely.

06

Asset management

A live register of devices, licences, warranties and lifecycle, so replacement is planned rather than urgent.

07

Vendor coordination

We deal with the ISP, the line-of-business software vendor and the hardware supplier so your team does not have to.

08

On-site support

Scheduled and call-out attendance in the Johannesburg area for work that cannot be done remotely.

09

Technology roadmap

Regular review of what is ageing, what is at risk, and what should be budgeted for next.

Process

01 / 1–2 weeks

Onboarding audit

We document devices, accounts, licences, network, backups and the applications the business actually depends on.

02 / 2–4 weeks

Stabilise

The known issues and outstanding risks are cleared first. Ongoing support is far cheaper once the backlog is gone.

03 / 1–2 weeks

Instrument

Monitoring, patching, backup verification and asset tracking are put in place so the environment reports on itself.

04 / Continuous

Operate

Day-to-day support against agreed response windows, with a named contact and documented escalation.

05 / Quarterly

Review

Scheduled reviews covering incidents, capacity, risk and upcoming replacement. Support work informs the roadmap.

Managed IT

Questions we are actually asked

Response windows are agreed per engagement and written into the arrangement, because a fifteen-person practice and a multi-site operation genuinely need different things. We would rather commit to a window we can hold than advertise a number we cannot.
